Carmelo Antonino Galati
Carmelo Galati (°1968, Sydney, Australia) is an artist who mainly works with photography. By applying abstraction, Galati creates intense personal moments masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles.
His photos are an investigation into representations of (seemingly) concrete ages and situations as well as depictions and ideas that can only be realized in photography.
With Plato’s allegory of the cave in mind, he tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way, likes to involve the viewer in a way that is sometimes physical and believes in the idea of function following form in a work.
His works directly respond to the surrounding environment and uses everyday experiences from the artist as a starting point.
Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context.
With a conceptual approach, he makes work that deals with the documentation of events and the question of how they can be presented. The work tries to express this with the help of physics and technology, but not by telling a story or creating a metaphor.
His works doesn’t reference recognizable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted.
Siti Amici: https://www.lacasadiserafina.com/ The house of Serafina is a cozy guesthouse in the historic center of S.Stefano di Camastra, near the ceramic museum. It has three bedrooms with private bathrooms, a modern kitchen, and a terrace with a view. The house is ideal for visiting the Nebrodi Park and the nearby beaches, as well as the charming town of Cefalù.

What an amazing journey of discovery I just have. Your art was able to represent my life refreshing all the memories. The “Still life” made me to stop and think why I like some of the pictures and why I dislike a few of them. In the dislikes ones I saw the reflection of all of my fails …but they really showed me as well how strong I am. The pictures I liked showed me my knowledge of knowing in a new way.
Carmelo Thank you for that journey of the discovery. I discovered the multilayers in me through your art.
Can’t wait for revisiting your absolutely outstanding work. Thank you for the authentic and for the aesthetical way of representation.
